Freshman sprinter Octavious Freeman (Lake Wales, Fla.) has been named to the Bowerman Watch List, the USTFCCCA announced Thursday. The Bowerman, which debuted in 2009, is presented annually by the USTFCCCA to the most outstanding male and female collegiate track & field athletes in the nation.

Freeman is the first true freshman since the award’s inception to be recognized on the list. Arizona State’s Anna Jelmini appeared on the list in 2011 as a redshirt freshman.

Freeman, who currently leads the nation in the 60 meter and has clocked the only automatic qualifying time so far this season, will return to the track along with the rest of the Knights this weekend at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational in New York.
