President Cartwright talks with Orlando Sentinel columnist Mike Bianchi about his first few months on the job, his philosophy on college athletics, UCF’s rising enrollment even during the pandemic and his formative years growing up in the Bahamas.

The UCF-based firm, which creates prosthetic limbs using 3-D printers, will move to a new facility, more than doubling its lab space. The additional space will help the firm as it expands its operations to serve adults as well children.

UCF is now looking to track the spread with student coronavirus contact tracers. In all, 700 students applied to be a student contact tracer, and six were chosen.

UCF is one of three Florida universities with the highest number of Hispanic and Latino students. In 2017, UCF’s Latino and Hispanic student body exceeded 25-percent, a rising number that granted them the Hispanic Serving Institution designation from the U.S. Department of Education.

UCF researchers hope a recent study will be essential to public health officials and policy makers battling COVID-19. The data includes behavior, public perception and where the messaging should be focused during the pandemic.

The Chabad at the University of Central Florida helped the campus' approximately 7,000 Jewish students take part in the holiday, even from a distance.

After defeating Eastern Carolina University, UCF climbed in both the Associated Press and coaches' top 25 polls this week. The Knights rose two spots to No. 11 in the AP poll and three spots to No. 12 in the coaches' poll.

With the flu season steadily approaching, UCF has launched a mobile flu-shot cart, which will travel around campus to deliver the influenza vaccine to faculty, staff and students upon request. University officials say getting a flu shot is even more important this year amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

Along with mask mandates and required symptom self-checks for students and staff, UCF also has its own contact tracing teams in place to help keep coronavirus cases down.
