During her visits to Africa, Betsy helped teenage boys establish a soccer team as part of the Kenya Football Federation and a youth group focused on helping others. The boys, who live in the slums of Kiberia, learned to help them selves through Betsy’s efforts.

“We are taught to not only help individuals but to address injustices, such as poverty and racism, in larger social systems. It’s been empowering for me as a student,” said Betsy.

“Through experiential learning, students gain a greater understanding of the world around them and are taught to impact their world. Professors at UCF work every day to educate and empower students, motivating them to think beyond the walls of their classroom.
