Those are among the science wonders that will be explained in a fun way Saturday, Feb. 26, at the Expanding Your Horizons Conference at the University of Central Florida.

The daylong program is sponsored by the UCF College of Engineering and Computer Science as a way to get middle school girls interested in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, also known as STEM.

Sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade girls and their parents from throughout Central Florida are invited to attend.

This year the focus is on aerospace and chemical engineering. About 200 girls will work on fun, hands-on projects. NASA will present Gee Whiz Science, while Mik Jacobs will present Blazing Science, a fun look at everyday science.

Adults will attend simultaneous workshops about why their daughters should choose to study math, science, and engineering and how they can help prepare them.

Volunteers from the community, student engineering organizations and students from the College of Optics and Photonics, will help bring science and engineering to life all day.
