Former UCF Football stars Shaquill ’16 and Shaquem Griffin ’16 — both currently on the roster of the Seattle Seahawks — will serve as commencement speakers at UCF’s Spring 2020 virtual commencement ceremonies on May 2.

The Spring 2020 virtual commencement ceremonies mark the 50th anniversary of the first commencement held at UCF, when NASA astronaut John Young addressed the Class of 1970. Each of the university’s 13 colleges will recognize graduates by hosting individual ceremonies on the university’s main Facebook and YouTube pages, where the names of every graduate from each college will be read aloud. All of the sessions will be archived on YouTube afterward.

A virtual graduation celebration video, comprised of pre-recorded well-wishes from graduate’s loved ones and supporters, will be shared on UCF’s social media channels in the days leading up to commencement. The UCF community and family and friends of graduates are encouraged to submit videos to congratulate, honor and inspire this semester’s graduating class.

More than 8,600 students are expected to accept their degrees — a new spring-term record for UCF. This semester, UCF expects to award more than 7,160 bachelor’s degrees, 1,245 master’s degrees and 145 doctorates.

UCF continues to be the No. 1 producer of degrees among public universities in the nation, based on the latest data from the National Center for Education Statistics. The university has awarded more than 354,000 degrees since classes formally began in 1968.

Throughout its history, UCF has taken pride in the diversity of its student body. Nearly half of this spring’s degrees will be awarded to students from traditionally underrepresented communities, with Hispanic students comprising more than one-quarter of all degree recipients. Annually, UCF graduates one of the highest numbers of minorities in the nation.
