Kris Shoemaker, adjunct professor of accounting and finance  at the Rosen College of Hospitality Management, received the President’s Award from Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP).

The award was presented in San Diego, CA in October 2010, by 2009-10 HFTP Global President, Terry Price.  Shoemaker describes, “It was such an honor and a privilege to receive this distinguished award in front of [400] peers.  I was speechless… for those that know me, that is hard to do.”

Shoemaker, a 1984 UCF (then FTU) graduate, established and mentors the student chapter of HTFP at Rosen College.

“Kris’s dedication to continuing education is reflected in his tireless efforts with the Certification Council and presenting reviews and proctoring exams, as well as establishing and mentoring the student chapter at and teaching accounting and finance classes for the University of Central Florida’s Rosen College of Hospitality Management,” said Price.

Shoemaker serves on several HFTP committees and has been a member of the HFTP Mid-Florida Chapter since 1999.  Under his leadership as a director, officer and president, the chapter has grown to the largest in the organization and has been named Chapter of the Year for an unprecedented six times.

“Having achieved several professional designations,” Shoemaker adds, “I believe in continuing education…as the quote says, once you stop learning, you start dying.”
