LGBTQ Services will celebrate its 1st Annual LGBTQ Pride Week October 8-11. LGBTQ Services will be celebrating “National Coming Out Day” on Tuesday, October 11, with a grand opening reception followed by the speaker and panel discussion event “Don’t Say Gay in Class” featuring Karen Graves, who has published a book on the Johns Committee. Light refreshments will be provided at the opening reception.

Public school teachers and students will be sitting on a speakers’ panel to address current issues: LGBTQ and Ally that faculty and students face across the county and here at UCF. Some things have not changed since the Johns Committee, there is still a stigma and fear attached to being out in school whether you are a teacher or a student. How can we address issues such as bullying and youth homelessness when school teachers are afraid to be out or to even advise a gay student organization?
