First responders from across Central Florida will be at UCF Thursday, March 12, to practice communication coordination and critical response during simulated emergencies inside UCF classroom buildings.
In addition to federal and state agencies, participants will include local cities and counties, state universities and colleges, community partners, regional aid agencies, 15 area hospitals and more. Classes will not be affected due to Spring Break.
The exercise will go from about 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Memory Mall and inside and outside of Classroom II and the Visual Arts Building. Additional tactical training for police and medics will take place at UCF Thursday afternoon and throughout Friday, March 13, inside the Visual Arts Building and the Performing Arts Center.
The full-scale exercise and training will help better prepare first responders to handle emergency scenarios and practice life-saving techniques.
Access to certain parts of campus will be limited starting Wednesday night. UCF faculty and staff whose workspaces will be used during the exercises should have been notified by their supervisors and developed alternate plans.
Central Florida Boulevard between Alafaya Trail and Gemini Boulevard will be closed Thursday. Lots H1, H2, H3 and H4 will be closed Thursday and Friday. The top two levels of garages H and I will be reserved for exercise participants both days. Those who normally park in the H lots may park on levels one or two in the H and I garages.
