The UCF Police Department is joining agencies across the country in a Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement wave that will go through May 31.
UCFPD is stepping up enforcement and will issue citations to motorists who are not wearing a seat belt. The campaign is tied with Memorial Day Weekend and the subsequent summer travel season, when more activity on the roads means greater risk.
Seat belts can help prevent serious injuries during accidents and ultimately save lives. The simple step of buckling up makes roads safer for everyone.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly 63,000 lives have been saved by seat belts from 2009 to 2013, and accident injury rates are declining.
Still, that’s no reason to skip seat belts. UCFPD hopes that through targeted enforcement, drivers are encouraged to make buckling up a habit.
Officers will be looking for unbuckled motorists, and seat belt violators will be subject to a $114 non-moving violation.
