The University of Central Florida will host its largest blood drive – with 12 of OneBlood’s Big Red Buses outside Bright House Networks Stadium — from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, June 27, as part of the #OrlandoUnited efforts.
Although more than 250 appointments are booked, OneBlood’s Big Red Buses will have plenty of room for walk-ins on Monday. Enter the stadium via North Orion Boulevard, and the check-in area for blood donations will be at the Recruiting Lounge.
The massive drive includes an effort to register bone marrow donors to the “Be the Match” registry. UCF is helping OneBlood find a bone marrow match for 20-month-old Korbyn Daniel Martinez, the son of UCF engineering graduate Hillary Sample Martinez (’06). Korbyn has leukemia, and he is in need of a bone marrow transplant.
You do not need an appointment to help with the bone marrow transplant drive. The registration process involves having a cheek swabbed to determine your tissue type.
UCF’s cheerleaders will be in attendance.
The UCF School of Performing Arts will donate a ticket to all blood donors to attend Theatre UCF’s The World Goes ‘Round. The show runs June 23-July 2 and Aug. 25-28 in the theatre department’s Building 6.
