What is the Organic Garden?

The half-acre UCF Organic Community Garden has a variety of fruits, vegetables and herbs. The garden features plants native to Florida, as well as other plants that can withstand the Florida climate.

Students and community members who regularly volunteer their time in the garden share the produce from the garden.

eggplantPlanted in the garden is okra, eggplant, sugarcane, Florida elderberry and Florida blueberry along with many other fruits and vegetables. The garden is also home to both medicinal and culinary herbs.

The UCF Organic Community Garden launched Feb. 21 by the Student Sustainability Alliance and the UCF Environmental Initiative. Since the garden’s launch, more than 200 students and community members have volunteered 1,500 hours to keep up the garden.

Sponsors of the UCF Community Garden Work Day are the UCF Environmental Initiative, Volunteer UCF, The Simple Living Institute, Inc., Ourlando and Slow Food Orlando.
