Jerry Estrada, a junior Event Management major at the University of Central Florida, was recently hired by Google as part of the Building Opportunities for Leadership & Development (BOLD) Diversity Internship Program.
Estrada, one of 3,000 applicants for the summer program, will work in San Francisco from June through August.
“I’m a creative person, and Google emphasizes that,” he said. “They focus on being spunky and different, and I love to go against the grain and express myself in a new way.”
During his paid internship, Estrada will receive a unique glimpse into a business career at a technology company. He will attend weekly Google business case study workshops, tech talks and skill-building seminars; work closely with a Google mentor; and experience community building and networking.
Estrada’s primary goal is to land a position with Google’s event team.
“I encourage other students to think outside of the box and just go for it — I never thought I would work for Google,” he said.
