“I want to thank Coach Speraw for his tenure at the University of Central Florida, leading our men’s basketball program,” Tribble said. “This was not an easy decision, but one we felt will serve in the best interest of our program’s direction. Coach Speraw has always gone about his position with integrity and class and we appreciate all he and his staff have contributed to UCF basketball. This is the right time to make a change in direction.”
Speraw totaled a 279-233 record at UCF, which also includes a 40-38 mark in Conference USA since joining the league in 2005-06. His tenure also included four Atlantic Sun Conference tournament championships and subsequent NCAA Tournament berths. In UCF’s second C-USA season in 2006-07, the team finished second during the regular season, while Speraw was named conference coach of the year.
This season, UCF finished 15-17 and 6-10 in C-USA. The Knights lost in the quarterfinals of the C-USA Tournament to UTEP, 76-54.
A native of Sioux City, Iowa, Speraw was named the program’s fifth head coach on July 28, 1993. He previously served as an assistant coach at the University of Florida for three seasons after another three-year stint as head coach at Pensacola Junior College.
Associate Head Coach Mike Jaskulski will serve as interim coach until a successor is named.
