UCF Recreation and Wellness Center hosted the 2011 Florida Summit conference on June 24. The National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association is the leading resource for professional and student development, education, and research in collegiate recreational sports. The event offers an opportunity for professionals and students from Florida colleges to come together to share ideas, collaborate and network in order to create a better “rec” experience as each campus.

Pre-conference activities included facility tours of Bright House Networks Stadium, UCF Arena, The Venue, Lake Claire Recreation Area and the RWC Park. UCF also hosted an off-campus social at The MOAT Sports Grille, a restaurant with an atmosphere of UCF school spirit.

More than 150 professionals and students participated in a full day conference of workshops, roundtables, facility tours and networking.  Discussions included trends and issues on fitness, outdoor adventure, aquatic, sports club, Intramural Sports, facility and marketing. Michael Freeman, Office of Diversity Initiatives, presented, “Creating a Diverse and Inclusive Recreation Environment.”

RWC committee members: Chair Kimberly Halliday, fitness; India Asunto, marketing; and Catherine Garland, sport clubs; coordinated the event. “This conference is a great avenue for rec sports professionals and students to collaborate and learn more about how we all provide recreation opportunities to students,” said Asunto.
