Licensed mental health professionals and other health care providers will have an opportunity to expand their knowledge base in August.
The School of Social Work will host a Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment training from 1 to 4 p.m., August 11 at the FAIRWINDS Alumni Center. Participants must register by August 4.
SBIRT is an approach to screening and recommending early intervention to help prevent serious substance misuse. Social workers and other health care professionals who use SBIRT can quickly assess a person’s level of risk for substance abuse and take action.
During the training, participants will learn about SBIRT through lectures, videos and handouts; practice the SBIRT screening for substance abuse; and apply the Motivational Interviewing-based counseling intervention.
The training is funded by a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, led by Principal Investigator Shawn Lawrence, Ph.D., LCSW, a member of the school’s faculty.
Register for the training at bit.ly/SBIRTUCF2017.
