Highlights of the Awards Program include:
USPS Employee of the Year: Elba Miscannon
Since 2008, Elba has worked in Student Development and Enrollment Services, where she supports Assistant Vice President Mark Gumble and manages payroll and hiring for 30 full-time professional positions and more than 200 student employees. According to her nominators, creativity, commitment, diligence, dedication, inclusivity, and loyalty are all qualities that Elba possesses. Elba has demonstrated a strong commitment to UCF's goals of offering the best education in the state of Florida and becoming more inclusive and diverse. Additionally, Elba has shown a commitment to UCF's Collective Impact Strategic Plan by supporting the development of UCF Downtown, the Reimagining the First Year in College project, and strategic planning as these new initiatives unfold. Congratulations, Elba!
A&P Gabor Excellence Award: Vanessa Blackmon
Vanessa is currently the Assistant Director for the Office of Student Services at the UCF Rosen College of Hospitality Management, and director of the Rosen College Peer Outreach Mentoring Program (POMP). Vanessa joined UCF in July 2011 in a coordinator role, and immediately went to work creating this program. Two weeks later, POMP was up and running, beginning with 11 students. The program has grown to almost 100 students. On average, 98% of POMP mentees are retained at the Rosen College during the terms they participate in the program, and 90% have increased their cumulative GPAs, largely due to Vanessa’s efforts and support. Her interactions with students have proven to be positive and uplifting. In fact, many students affectionately refer to her as “mom.” Congratulations, Vanessa!
Additional honorees of note include Joe Raditch, Coordinator of Information and Publication Services for Communications and Marketing, who was selected as the United Way Advocate Leadership Award winner; and Sandra Cherepow, Senior Administrative Assistant to President Hitt, who celebrated her 45th anniversary in service to UCF.
Please join us in congratulating ALL of this year's nominees and honorees. We look forward to seeing you at next year's event!
