Student volunteers from the University of Central Florida helped to fill Lock Haven Park in downtown Orlando with thousands of flags honoring veterans on Tuesday.
The Camaraderie Foundation and Fifth Third Bank (Central Florida) joined together to recognize local military members who have been deployed at one time or are currently in Iraq or Afghanistan. To represent the number of Central Florida veterans, 10,678 small American flags were placed in the park by students and other volunteers.
An Orlando-based nonprofit organization, The Camaraderie Foundation provides counseling and support services to local veterans and their families.
Among the many UCF activities honoring veterans this week, students are making cards to send to deployed troops, the UCF Library is hosting a commemorative quilt and WUCF TV’s Metro Center Outlook show will feature two local veterans. Click here to read more about UCF”s Veterans Day activities.
