Edward “Mike” Robinson, a professor of counseling education in the University of Central Florida’s College of Education, has been awarded one of the highest honors in the counseling profession by the American Counseling Association.

Robinson was named an ACA fellow, a prestigious recognition, which means that he has made significant and unique contributions to the counseling field through professional practice, scientific achievement and teaching.

A professor in the Department of Educational and Human Sciences, Robinson has presented at more than 100 national and international conferences and has published more than 50 articles and a book on children’s fears.

Two other College of Education faculty members also were honored at the ACA’s annual conference in New Orleans this week.

W. Bryce Hagedorn, and Glenn Lambie received the ACA Research Award for their article “The effect of a counseling ethics course on counselor education students’ levels of ethical and legal knowledge, ethical decision-making, and social-cognitive development,” which appeared in the June issue of Counselor Education and Supervision.

Hagedorn is an assistant professor and director of UCF’s Counselor Education Program and Community Counseling Clinic. A member of several national counseling committees, his areas of research include addiction, spirituality and wellness.

Lambie is an associate professor and school counseling coordinator for UCF’s Counselor Education Program. A 16-year veteran of the counseling field, he’s been recognized for research and teaching at the university and national levels.

Kara Ieva, a UCF alumna who graduated last year with a PhD in Counselor Education, also collaborated with Hagedorn and Lambie on the article.

The American Counseling Association is the world’s largest nonprofit organization for professional counselors. The organization, founded in 1952, provides leadership training, continuing education and advocacy services for its more than 42,000 members.
