–Congratulations to Debra Hunt, a UCF College of Nursing instructor and Ph.D. candidate, for receiving a $500 extra-mural research grant from the Florida Nurses Foundation (FNF) for her research study entitled, “The lived experience of young onset dementia.” Each year, FNF funds are provided to registered nurses and students for scholarships and research grants. In addition to her research grant, Hunt has also been re-elected to serve as the second vice president on the Florida Nurses Association’s 2009-2011 Board of Directors. Hunt is serving a second term in this elected office.

–Six UCF nursing students received Florida Nurses Foundation (FNF) scholarships, the most awarded to any nursing school in the state, including USF and UM, which received four and three respectively. The 2009 UCF recipients are: Ivonne Johnson, a DNP student, who received a District 3 Scholarship; Holly Herrmann, a MSN Nurse Educator student, who received the District 8 Charlotte Anzalone Scholarship; Venina Wicker, a Cocoa BSN student, who received the Mary York Scholarship; Jamie Buchman, a Daytona BSN student, who received the Lillian Hulla Scholarship; Carmen Polo, a Daytona BSN student, who received the Olive Seymour District 6 Scholarship; and Elizabeth LaPorte, a BSN student, who received the Great 100 Nursing Scholarship. The FNF is the foundation arm of the Florida Nurses Association.
