The Believe 2014 faculty and staff campaign officially wrapped up Tuesday, March 25 with a celebration luncheon for donors at the FAIRWINDS Alumni Center, where President John C. Hitt announced a new record: 1,380 donors. This is a 20 percent increase over last year’s total.
Each of those 1,380 people gave to UCF for his or her own unique reason. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t common threads — an abiding belief in the power of UCF to change the lives of our students and make Central Florida a better place, a desire to give back to an institution that has itself given so much to so many, a deep pride in what UCF has achieved and what it stands for, and the drive to raise it to even greater heights.
The fact that so many faculty and staff members participated says a great deal about the university. First and foremost, it says to the community, peer institutions and, most importantly, UCF’s students, that those who work at the university are deeply devoted to its success.
More than $53,000 was raised for the First Generation Scholarship fund, which supports those students who are the first in their families to attend college. It was one of the top three funds supported in the month-long fundraising campaign, along with the Golden Knights Club and the Knights Helping Knights Pantry.
