The University of Central Florida’s Spirit Splash, an annual pre-game pep rally held during Homecoming week, has received a best campus tradition award from the National Association for Campus Activities.

NACA links higher education and entertainment communities in a business and learning partnership, creating educational and business opportunities for students and members. This year, the group collected nominations for its inaugural Best Campus Tradition Video Competition, which showcases the traditions in action.

UCF’s Spirit Splash was selected the best at a university with more than 10,000 full-time students by NACA members. Click here to view the winning video.

For the award, UCF’s programming board received three complimentary registrations to the 2012 NACA National Convention, where they will present an educational session about the winning campus tradition. Spirit Splash organizers will also submit an article to Campus Activities Programming magazine and receive $1,000 to use at this year’s event.

Spirit Splash, which has also been hailed as the best university tradition in the state by Florida Leader magazine, has been one of UCF’s greatest homecoming traditions for 15 years. On the Friday before the Homecoming football game, students celebrate by charging into the Reflecting Pond while UCF’s cheerleaders and the Marching Knights cheer them on.
