The academic achievements of University of Central Florida faculty and students were recognized Wednesday at the annual Founders’ Day Honors Convocation.
Recipients ranged from a theoretical physicist who is in demand worldwide for scientific presentations, to a biology professor who had a “day” named after her in Volusia County for her teaching and conservation efforts, to an aerospace engineering student who has built and launched rockets into space.
Awards were also given to honor excellence in research, professional service, outstanding theses, and other categories, along with length-of-service milestones.
“The achievements we recognize today confirm the merit of the past efforts of our founders and demonstrate that our dedication to excellence continues,” President John C. Hitt said during the ceremonies.
Employees, retirees, past honorees, recipients’ family and friends, and others from the UCF community attended the program held in the Student Union. A reception was held afterward.
