Following a competitive national search, Bill Poirier has been appointed UCF’s next Chief Information Officer. He will officially join Knight Nation on July 28.

Poirier brings more than 30 years of experience spanning education, government, military, and the private sector and a strong track record of leading major technology and organizational transformations. With a reputation for building high performing teams and fostering innovation, he is widely respected for his integrity, transparency and commitment to excellence.

“As we look to the future, Bill’s innovative mindset, collaborative approach, and deep technical expertise will help us further modernize and optimize our academic, research, and administrative systems and technology infrastructure,” UCF President Alexander N. Cartwright says. “I know he will be a trusted leader as we continue to advance our future as Florida’s Premier Engineering and Technology University.”

Most recently, Poirier served as vice chancellor for technology and chief information officer at the University System of New Hampshire. He earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, a master’s degree in National Security Strategy from National War College and an MBA from Strayer College.

Prior to his current position in New Hampshire, Poirier served in various leadership roles in state government, K-12 education management and the U.S. Air Force. These included roles as a chief executive, chief information officer and chief technology officer. He retired from the Air Force as Colonel after more than 20 years of military service.
