The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at UCF is offering a FREE disaster planning workshop for Central Florida business owners on Tuesday, June 8, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The program will take place at the SBDC, which is located at the Disney Entrepreneur Center, 315 E. Robinson Street, Suite 100, Orlando, FL 32801.
Sponsored by Orange County Government, the two-hour workshop entitled “One Plan, Any Disaster” will provide business owners with a disaster plan applicable for any disaster—natural or manmade. This workshop is designed to explain the strategies and tools for disaster planning required by small business to reduce economic damages. Learn how to swiftly strike back to safeguard your business against hurricanes, wildfires, sinkholes, floods, swine flu and terrorist attacks. Critical components of business continuity planning and insurance are also discussed. This hands-on, interactive presentation is designed to ensure business owners leave with a disaster plan in hand. The workshop is taught by Robert J. Goetz, site manager, SBDC at UCF – Seminole State College.
Workshop participants will also be able to tour one of the Florida SBDC Network’s Mobile Business Assistance Centers (MAC). This 38-foot mobile RV is equipped to be deployed immediately after a natural or man-made disaster. The MAC was designed to provide disaster assistance to small businesses during post-hurricane situations and for rural clients who need assistance and either do not have an SBDC location near them or are unable to travel to a Florida SBDC location.
Pre-registration is required. You may register online or call 407.420.4850. Please visit the SBDC website for more information on the center.
