Rebeca Perren, a third-year Ph.D. student in the marketing track, recently won the NASCAR/Wendell Scott Sr. Award from the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU). According to Perren, the purpose of the HSCU program is to support Hispanic students pursuing an education. Hispanics are grossly underrepresented in academia in general, but particularly in the field of business. Upon graduation, she will seek a position as an academic researcher and university professor.
“As a university professor I would have the opportunity not only to be a role model and mentor to minority students, but also to increase the diversity of experience of all students in my classroom. As an academic researcher, I can use my diverse background, culture and experiences to influence the creation of new knowledge,” she said.
“I believe my passion for learning, fascination with the quest for knowledge and relentless persistence are qualities that will allow me to succeed in an academic career. Receiving this award will assist me financially in pursuit of my dissertation.”
