This Valentine’s Day UCF Victim Services will host One Billion Rising, the global revolution where female survivors of violence and their supporters break their silence.

The event, which will start at noon, Tuesday, Feb. 14, on the Student Union patio, encourages those affected by violence to speak out against it through spoken word, dance, poetry, art, or whatever feels right to them.

“We are in the fight to end violence against women,” Victim Advocate Coretta Cotton said. “Statistics say that 1 in 3 women will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population that means more than one billion women and girls will be affected. We are bringing awareness and taking a stand saying ‘This is not OK.’”

The One Billion Rising campaign was launched on Valentine’s Day 2012 to bring national and international attention to these issues.
