University of Central Florida associate professor Joyce Nutta has been honored for her book about infusing English-language teaching into classrooms and curriculums.
“Preparing Every Teacher to Reach English Learners: A Practical Guide for Teacher Educators” earned the 2013 Outstanding Book Award from the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education. The award recognizes books for their advancements in educator preparation.
Nutta is an associate professor in the School of Teaching, Learning and Leadership at UCF who specializes in second-language learning and teaching. Her book provides a framework to prepare teachers to meet the needs of English-language learners in their classrooms and was co-edited by Kouider Mokhtari of the University of Texas at Tyler and Carine Strebel of Stetson University.
“With the increasing number of English learners enrolled in schools throughout the U.S., teacher educators are striving to prepare all candidates to reach linguistically and culturally diverse students,” said College of Education Dean Sandra Robinson. “We’re proud of the work of Dr. Nutta and her peers, which offers a model approach to address this growing need.”
The award will be presented next week in Orlando at the AACTE’s annual meeting.
