On October 7, Jumpstart, a nonprofit organization in the field of early childhood education, held its Read for the Record Day. The focus of this national day is to draw attention to the importance of early literacy. UCF’s “Littlest Knights” preschoolers from Creative School for Children participated in this event and read the classic favorite, Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats.
Snowy Day is a Caldecott Medal award winner and is recognized for its outstanding illustrations for children’s literature. In partnership with Lee-Anne Spalding, College of Education, UCF Book Festival and Knightro, the children had an opportunity to hear this wonderful story read by UCF partners and volunteers.
Across the country, children were being read to and are reading from this book to set a record for the most people reading the same book on the same day. The children had a great time and received their own “snow” as a special token to take with them to remember the story.
Creative School for Children is in the Division of Student Development and Enrollment Services.
