Dear Colleagues,
We continue to track executive orders issued by the White House, along with subsequent judicial action, that could potentially impact awarded projects and those awaiting funding.
Most recently, the National Institutes of Health announced a policy capping indirect cost reimbursements at 15%, a substantial reduction from previous rates. A federal judge temporarily blocked this action, with a hearing scheduled for February 21.
While the long-term impact remains unclear, creating uncertainty, please know that UCF remains committed to supporting our research community and the important work of our faculty, staff, and students.
We continue to actively monitor the situation and are working closely with our government relations team in Washington, D.C., as well as national research organizations, to better understand any implications.
At this time, we encourage faculty to continue their existing research activities unless directly notified of changes to a specific grant or contract. We recommend exercising caution with new financial commitments for projects that could be affected by evolving federal priorities.
If a federal program officer contacts you regarding your project, please notify Kim Smith, AVP for Research Administration (kim@ucf.edu), so we can assist you in navigating any necessary actions.
If you have any immediate questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the Office of Research.
