Biography

Barbara Andraka-Christou’s research examines how health systems and policies can better support evidence-based treatment for substance abuse disorders, particularly the use of medications for opioid use disorder. As director of the Substance Use Policy & Evaluation (SUPER) research team, she investigates how legal frameworks, institutional practices and provider decision-making influence treatment access and quality across healthcare and justice settings.

She has led and contributed to numerous projects on opioid access in problem-solving courts, the operationalization of person-centered care, and ethical considerations in research involving pregnant women who use drugs. Through this work, Andraka-Christou aims to inform more effective and person-centered substance treatment policy.
