Biography
Giang Vu’s research focuses on identifying and promoting preventive care that improve both oral and systemic health outcomes. His work emphasizes the role of preventive dental and medical care utilization in reducing adverse health events and lowering healthcare costs.
Using large-scale administrative datasets, Vu investigates how oral health interventions affect chronic conditions such as type 2 diabetes. His studies explore the cost-effectiveness of dental prevention in managing medical conditions, the utilization patterns of preventive services, and the broader implications for healthcare delivery systems.
As principal investigator and co-investigator on several Medicaid-funded projects, Vu has examined the relationship between oral health and systemic disease, assessed changes in market structures following Medicaid expansion under the Affordable Care Act, and analyzed the impact of various determinants of health on care access and outcomes among Medicaid beneficiaries. His research aims to inform data-driven policies and practices that advance integrated, preventive healthcare models.
As fellow/resident at Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Division of Oral Health, Vu has investigated the relationship between adverse childhood experiences and oral health outcomes (e.g., tooth loss, dental visit) among adults in the United States. His research helps understand better relationships between oral health and general health, encourages stronger collaboration between dental and medical/mental professionals.
Dr. Vu has published his research in Journal of the American Dental Association, Journal of Public Health Dentistry, Community Dental Health, Scientific Reports, and other high-quality journals.
