Biography
Claire Connolly Knox is the founding director of the No. 1 nationally ranked Master of Emergency and Crisis Management program at UCF. As an interdisciplinary scholar, her research applies language-based theories to analyze environmental and emergency plans, policies, and reports, as well as challenges facing public administrators working with underserved communities.
A widely recognized name in the emergency management field, Knox is known for her involvement in and advocacy for disaster policy-shaping efforts. These include her research on Louisiana’s coastal zone planning following multiple disasters; analysis of cultural discourses in disaster response and recovery communications; studies on hurricane evacuation behavior via social media data that informed updates to Florida’s State Evacuation Plan; and collaboration on federally funded projects informing residential risk disclosure resilience and green stormwater infrastructure projects. A National Academy of Public Administration (NAPA) Fellow, Knox combines academic insight with practical contributions to emergency management, coastal resilience, and environment sustainability.
