Biography

Jill Viglione’s research focuses on community supervision, probation, parole and reentry, with particular attention to the implementation of evidence-based practices in correctional settings. She studies how risk and needs assessment frameworks are adopted at the organizational and street levels, examining how policies translate into everyday supervision decisions. Her work highlights the complexities of professional discretion, organizational change and the evolving role of probation officers within reform-oriented systems.

A central thread of her scholarship explores how behavioral health intersects with the justice system. Viglione investigates strategies for improving access to mental health and substance use services for justice-involved individuals, including cross-system collaborations and large-scale reform initiatives. She examines how agencies coordinate care, measure implementation progress and sustain practices that promote rehabilitation and reduce system involvement.

Viglione also evaluates the role of technology and training in strengthening community corrections. From officer skill development and client-centered communication to virtual supervision and mobile applications, she assesses how innovation reshapes supervision practices and officer well-being. Through sustained researcher–practitioner partnerships, her work seeks to advance practical reforms that enhance fairness, effectiveness and public safety in community corrections.
