Frequently Asked Questions

Healthcare informatics – or health informatics – is a relatively new discipline in healthcare that focuses on the technologies used to organize and analyze health data to improve health outcomes. The original focus of this field was on digitizing records and creating systems that communicated with one another. As the field matured, there is now an opportunity to capitalize on the “Big Data” movement where informaticists can take these digitized records and use the content to evaluate needs, assess trends, and predict the future of healthcare.

Health informaticists are a central figure in the improvement of the healthcare systems. They occupy a critical intersection between medicine and technology, which places these skills in high demand in today’s world. Several career opportunities are available to someone with the right skills and credentials. Many of the students studying healthcare informatics graduate and assume the role of “analyst” in various locations, including hospitals, public health, insurance companies, and technology vendors. In each of these settings, it is the role of the informatics professional to provide timely and understandable data that assists in decision making and planning.

The master of science in healthcare informatics program at UCF will not only provide you with the data analytics, project management and communication skills that you need to be successful, we will help you obtain highly sought-after industry credentials to aid in your career development.

The healthcare informatics master’s program works with a community advisory board of informatics professionals at the top of their field. This board ensures that we are teaching the right skills at the right time to ensure that our students are prepared to start making a difference as soon as they are hired.
