Magazine Journalism Minor

The magazine journalism minor prepares students for exciting careers in the field of magazine publishing. With hands-on courses in writing, editing, design and production, students have the opportunity to work on the NSCM Centric, a magazine created by and for students and published each fall.

Minor Requirements

• A minimum GPA of 2.0 is required in all courses used to satisfy the minor.
• Grades below "C" (2.0) in lower level courses are not accepted in the minor.
• At least 15 hours used in the minor must be earned at UCF within the Nicholson School of Communication and Media

Prerequisite Courses

• Students must satisfy each course's prerequisites before enrolling in the class.

Required Courses

• Complete the following:
  • JOU2100C - News Reporting (3)
  • JOU4447 - Magazine Editing and Production (3)

Restricted Electives

• Complete all of the following
  • Additional restricted electives can be taken as approved by an advisor.
  • Complete at least 4 of the following:
    • ENC3310 - Magazine Writing I (3)
    • JOU3201 - Editing I (3)
    • JOU3310 - Social Media Writing for Magazines (3)
    • JOU3510 - Magazine Publishing (3)
    • JOU4213C - Page Design (3)
    • JOU4300 - Feature Writing (3)
    • JOU4308 - Freelance Writing (3)
    • JOU4700 - Journalism Ethics (3)

Grand Total Credits: 18

Total Undergraduate Credit Hours Required: 18

Other Requirements

• Internship, co-op, or independent study credit cannot be used toward the minor without school permission.
