The Francophone Studies Certificate offers a deep dive into the rich linguistic and cultural landscapes of French-speaking regions across the globe. Designed to enhance proficiency in French, students can tailor the certificate to their interests with the variety of electives in literature, culture, or linguistics, or they can study abroad.
Admission Requirements
- Students must complete the elementary French Language sequence or demonstrate proficiency in French to be admitted to the certificate. Native speakers, heritage speakers, and students who are already proficient at the intermediate level in French will substitute two 3000- or 4000- level French courses for FRE 2200 and/or FRE 2201.
Certificate Requirements
- For degree-seeking students, certificates will be awarded only at time of degree completion.

- A grade of "C" (2.0) or better is required in all courses used to satisfy the certificate.
- At least 9 hours used in the certificate must be earned at UCF within the department.
- No more than six (6) credit hours of overlap between the certificate and the French and Francophone Studies major or minor.
- Independent Study or Co-op credit may be used toward the certificate with departmental permission.
- Additional courses may be approved by the program director. Students need approval prior to completing courses not listed.
- No credit by exam (TSD, military credit) may be used.
