Doctoral student Emmanuel Okogbue began his academic journey at just 15 and received multiple PhD offers by age 19. He chose UCF for its high research ranking and diverse environment, stating, “UCF creates a very ideal research environment that equips researchers with the necessary tools to cultivate innovative ideas.”
Emmanuel completed his bachelor’s degree at Florida A&M University and earned his master’s in Electrical Engineering at UCF. As an international student, he credits his professors and advisors for helping him grow both professionally and personally.
He encourages fellow students to leverage UCF’s abundant resources and reminds future graduate students, “Your dreams are valid. While working hard to create the future you want, embrace the failures and successes that are inevitably part of the process.” Emmanuel emphasizes maintaining a healthy mind and surrounding yourself with supportive peers, including through his involvement with the National Society of Black Engineers at UCF.
His interdisciplinary research blends electrical engineering, material science, and nanotechnology, focusing on using nanomaterials to create flexible and stretchable electronic devices. His work has earned multiple recognitions, including:
- First place, Nanotechnology Workshop (2018)
- Award, UCF Graduate Research Forum (2019)
- First place, Statewide Graduate Student Research Symposium at FIU (2019)
- First place in research, NanoFlorida International Conference at USF (2019)
- Featured on Fox35 Orlando News
Since graduating in 2021, Emmanuel is working on innovating consumer projects as a Hardware Engineer at Apple.
