Stephen Adeoye journeyed to UCF from Nigeria after receiving his bachelor’s in Engineering from the Federal University of Technology Akure. After receiving high honors and graduating as the best student within the department of Mechanical Engineering, UCF’s engineering program caught his eye because of its diversity and the highly respected reputation he learned about from conversing with others who attended the university. Since accepting admission, he hasn’t regretted his decision since saying, “I find the class options offered to be very holistic. I have learned a great deal of new principles and approaches in solving engineering problems from the start of my program.”
Adeoye earned his master’s in Mechanical Engineering from UCF as well as his Mechanical Engineering PhD. While pursuing a doctoral degree, he worked on research that focused on thermal management of electronic devices where he studied heat transfer rates in miniaturized electronic chips. His passion for learning and drive to working things out even after repeated failures is what draws him to his research. “It’s a very advanced area of research. It is also quite challenging and motivates me to see new potentials in myself,” he says. In 2019, he spent a month working with the Cornell Nanoscale Facility at Cornell University. During this trip, Adeoye spent time in training to work in the facility and formulated recipes for achieving his target device.
After graduation, Adeoye has continued to pursue an engineering career, working alongside renowned researchers. “To me, engineering is not just about playing with machines or working on math formulas. Engineering is really about fulfilling a need within society, and I am devoted to contributing to the world professionally and academically through this field,” Adeoye says.
We unleash the potential of people and ideas to positively change the world.
