Solar Sails and the Future of Spacecraft Design
Engineering graduate Andrew Allen ’21 spent a lot of time studying sails, but the kind that outfit spacecraft, not sailboats. The Oviedo native earned a master’s in mechanical engineering while completing advanced research in UCF’s Structures and Materials Design Lab.
The most important thing I have personally learned while conducting research is the amount of effort that goes into seemingly small increases in knowledge,” he says. “Something may seem like a simple and obvious conclusion, but the amount of effort required to prove that conclusion can be significant.
